THE CREATIVE TEAM OF LEN RYDAHL & JONNY SILVER

LEN RYDAHL

Over a three-season run of the CBC crime series, 72hours, as director and designer respectively, Jonny Silver and Len Rydahl collaborated on numerous design and lighting concepts. Both graduated from The Ontario College Of Art but each followed a different artistic path before meeting on the film set.

Len Rydahl designed architectural signage and street furniture for King Corporation in Mississauga before becoming a senior partner in a design firm. The firm's pioneering work in interactive sculptures was recognized internationally with contracts at the Okinawa Expo, Ontario Place, numerous USA locations, in South America and the Middle East. Rydahl has been awarded several patents and design registrations for his innovative devices including the Rescue Cart for the Toronto Transit Commission.

He has also contributed to Green Utopia, a government publication on improving the environment with eco-friendly art and design projects. He has become a respected Designer and Art Director of television series including, Masterminds, Exhibit A, 72hours and Puppets Who Kill. 

Previous Designs

JONNY SILVER

Jonny Silver studied under some of Canada’s most recognized interdisciplinary artists. His art education included an assistantship with cubist painter, Arthur Langlet (pupil of cubism founder Georges Braque) at the Atelier International de Séguret in southern France. Silver had one-man shows at A Space, Toronto, Ed Video, Guelph, and at the Canadian Embassy, Belgrade, Serbia.

His films were featured in group-shows at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, Canada House, London, and the Goethe Institute, Berlin. He followed a career producing his own experimental films while working as a freelance director in both English and French sectors of the Canadian media industry. Silver was involved in co-ventures with both language studios of the NFB, TVO and CBC and on international co-productions. His work took him across Canada, throughout Europe, to Central America and the Middle East. He directed episodes for award-winning forensic series, Exhibit ‘A’ and Forensic Factor, and for the popular crime series, 72hours.

Silver’s artistic output has included a body of work in digital photography and collage. His “puzzle-images” have been featured in art books, web-based projects and in group exhibitions including the 2015 Liquid Rooms show at the Palazzo Ca’Zinardi in Venice.
